Process
Most financial data work follows the same six stages. The detail changes with the sources, so here is what each stage involves for this service.
We start with the decision the data has to support, then list the public sources that answer it: regulator registers and publications, company filings, market and rate pages, fund and product listings. For each source we note the fields, how often it changes, and its terms of use, so the scope is agreed before any collection starts.
We pull a few hundred rows from the agreed sources and send them as a CSV with the proposed field names and types. You check the fields against what your analysts or models need. Changes at this stage cost nothing. Changes after the build cost time.
Each source gets its own collector with strict typing on the way in. Dates are parsed to ISO format, currencies carry an explicit code, and decimals are stored as decimals rather than floats. Anything that fails to parse is held back and flagged rather than written as a blank.
Before every delivery we reconcile the output against a known-good figure: a published index level, a rate on the regulator's own page, a total from a filing you have to hand. Each check is recorded with the expected and actual values so you can see what was compared.
Files arrive on the schedule and in the format agreed. Each delivery is a versioned snapshot, so you can go back and see exactly what a page said on a given day. That matters for point-in-time backtesting and for answering questions from compliance.
Source sites change their layout without notice, so each collector is monitored for row counts, parse failures and field drift. When a source changes, we fix the collector and record what changed and when in a change log that comes with the next delivery.
Deliverables
Every engagement produces the same core set of files, sized to the job.
CSV, JSON, Parquet or Excel, delivered to S3, SFTP or straight into your database. One-off, daily or hourly, as the question requires.
One line per field: name, type, unit, source page, and how it was derived. Written so a new analyst can pick the dataset up without asking us.
The checks run on each delivery, the figures they were reconciled against, and any rows held back for review, with the reason.
Every delivery is kept as a dated version. You can pull what a source said on any date we collected it, which supports point-in-time analysis and audit questions.
How each source was collected, how often, and under what terms, so you can repeat the process, hand it to another vendor, or show it to a regulator.
A running record of every source layout change: what broke, what we fixed and when, so a gap in the series is never a mystery.
